Brearley Family Information

The Brearley family became linked with the Biltcliffe name through marriage of the grand-daughter of a Brearley in the mid 2000's. The history of that line of Brearley's was based around the Penistone area of West Yorksire. Real interest the history of the family name was sparked by the realisation that not only was that the same place and era that the Biltcliffe family history is based in, but also that there was an Ann Brearley married to James Biltcliffe in the family tree.

As far as we can tell the Brearley name in the Penistone area seems to appear around 1750. There are a few mentioned in the years just before that, however in the following years there appear to be a number of families present with the name.

The research has really focused around the early to mid 1800's to try and find the link between the two families. This has not prevented exploring the family in various other directions. Currently the confirmed family dates back to 1808, however other information provided dates the family line back into the 1700's.

Currently the research has been limited to just the direct family line, however when time permits spreading the research further into those that have married into the Brearley or Biltcliffe families may provide the link we are looking for.

If you do have any information on the Brearley families living in the Penistone, West Yorkshire area in the early 1800's then we are very interested to hear more.
